GPS-project22 for NOIPERLORO
The project22 team is currently developing a GPS device as a charity project. The aim should be to offer a sailing module and to donate the proceeds (minus our external costs) in full to NOIPERLORO Onlus. Noiperloro, based in Arco/Italy, is a small project team without a large administration, which among other things runs a day care center for children in Ghana (https://www.noiperloro.com). So your money gets to where it is needed. And this is exactly our goal!
Cat sailing is speed sailing! And everyone wants to know how fast he/she is currently traveling. The instrument reliably provides you with the current speed in knots and of course the maximum speed driven. Two screens, on port and starboard on the mast, give you the current values on every course. In the analysis mode, you are provided with top speeds in the four segments of the cardinal direction, so you can better see how you are traveling upwind, downwind, portside and starboard.
This in-house creation has been developed with passion and commitment since the end of 2021 and some prototypes have been in practical testing since 2022. So far the speed over ground, the position, the course over ground, Vmax values on different courses and the receiving satellite etc. are displayed.
Since more information is possible or at least useful for personal training and trimming, we want to develop the project further.
In order to get further data and functions, the use of a flight controller hardware and software from the model flight is recommended. The current status is that we are trying to bring a flight controller together with the current display system. This could retrieve additional telemetry data such as:
- Measuring and documenting acceleration and boat attitudes around all 3 axes.
- Measuring and documenting magnetic compass (with compass direction and mast rotation to direction of movement).
- a black box for recording all (selected) data and the possibility of data analysis on the PC (with software).
We look forward to your help!
It is possible to actively participate in this project if someone has prior knowledge of microelectronics or programming in Arduino/C++.
Thank you for your support!
